Israel intensified its offensive in northern Gaza ahead of a potential deal with Hamas that would see the Palestinian militant group release dozens of hostages in return for a partial pause in fighting.
A possible agreement comes amid growing domestic pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to secure the release of more than 200 Israeli hostages abducted by Hamas and other militants during the group’s attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
